The waiting list is rather short. It should only take a few days before you get your invite. The reason they do this is because they aren't ready yet to go totally public because their servers might not be able to handle the influx of casual browsers. This way they can adjust to fit the number as they go along. It's really to everyone's benefit in the end. Plus, you don't get any spam from them, no annoying ads and you only have as much contact as you want. Let us know when you've gotten your profile so we can friend you!

Thanks, I sure will! Very Happy I guess it makes sense that they have a waiting list if their server can't cope with an influx of casual browsers.

LOL, Canute; I think you should apply for that job Ravelry's hiring for. You sound like an advert. Razz

Did I mention I chose my yarn over the weekend? It's a sportweight yarn that's in my stash. Haven't cast on yet as I'm working on a gift that needs finishing soon. but I'm glad to hear the alternate cable cast on isn't too heinous!

*fans* Try the normal cable cast on first if you've never used it. I think that'll help, or it least it seems that way to me since it looks like it's basically the same idea, only your switching between Ks and Ps instead of Ks all the time ... right?

Yes, well Pen, you know I'd hate to have someone miss out on a good thing! I did think about applying for the job though, but it would be too much next to my day job. Plus, with all the applicants, I wouldn't stand a chance!

I actually cast on last night, but not the actual hat. I decided to do the scarf first (I'm doing a set) so that I could see what my gauge would be like (look ma! No gauge swatch!). I also just used a normal cast on. Didn't even think about doing the alternate cable cast on, or I might have tried that. Or maybe not. I was probably too tired to really try anything new anyway.

The first 5 inches of the scarf are looking good! I'll post pics of what I have this weekend sometime.

I have to say that I really like the result from using the alternate cable cast on that I plan on using it next time I make a sweater. I think that the edge looks so much neater and more polished, so it's worth the effort. Canoodles was the one suggesting using stitch markers for a lot of cast-on stitches, and it really made a difference, only having to keep track of one set of ten alternating k/p's, rather than my first attempt at 132 with no markers. No wonder I had to frog it! I've got the ribbing finished, and I can start the cable pattern as soon as I'm inclined...

ETA Progress - First two repeats of cable pattern done and posted on Ravelry (photo won't link here)...please to note my way cool Hogwarts stitch marker from the knitting chat Wink

I finally bought my yarn last night. I got a very nice almost heathered-looking bright blue, and a really great yellow. and I am going to play around with the SC and try to make a pattern (sorta). I'll let you know how it works.

Looking great, Soli! I need to pull out the yarn and needles for this soon. I haven't been very productive in the knitting department lately.

Looks great Soli! At this rate, you're going to beat us all!

I have to admit that I've been concentrating on my Arwen Cardy lately. I've finished the body and am working on the hood. That means that it's already fairly large and heavy - I've used over 1kg of wool so far - so I'm trying to get it done while it's still cool. I don't think I could manage to work on this in summer and they're already forecasting 80°F at the end of the week. That should at least motivate me to switch to the KAL.

Friended you! How's everyone doing on the KAL? I've finally finished my gift knitting so will be casting on for this today or tomorrow. I think I may change yarn though to Patons Merino in Leaf Green.

I won't have to fiddle with the pattern since it's a worsted weight. Kinda Slytherin-y too, lol.

Also friended!

Why does it not surprise me that you'll be using green pen? I'm going to start calling you Kermit soon ;P

I haven't actually gotten very far and I'm afraid I've decided to rip it all out again because I want to add another row of the lace bit on the right-hand outside. It seems a bit too narrow and looks lop-sided like this. The colour in the picture isn't great, but the weather isn't playing fair.

I've got one more repeat to go before I start the decreases. I actually put it to one side because I didn't want to finish it immediately, therefore taking all the fun out of my KAL...

Besides, among other things, I'm also reading Pen's excellent chapter on women's education in the 18th/19th c... Wink
