Ok, I did a search and couldn't find anything exactly like this, but please close this thread if it is a repeat or if there is anything wrong with it!
Anyways, questions...
1)What's your favorite fantasy book?(Other than Harry Potter )
2)On a scale of 1-10, one being the highest, how would you rate said book?
3)If you could change one thing about the book, what would it be?
4)Out of the characters in the book, who's your favorite, who would you most like to meet, and who would you most like to be?
5)Have you read any other works by this author? How are they?
I shall start out. First of all, one of my favorite fantasy books besides the Harry Potter series, is the Young Wizards series. The first book in the series is So You Want to be a Wizard?. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate SYWtbaW at about 9, just because I like other books in the series better, and I think she could've done better with this one. If I could change one thing about this book, it would be what happens to Fred, the White Nova. My favorite character in this book is Fred, I would most like to meet Dairine, and I would most like to be Nita. The only other books besides So You Want to be a Wizard that I've read by her are the other books in the series, and they're really good!
Feel free to build on these questions! Again, if this thread needs to be closed, sorry for cluttering up the boards!!

I used to read a lot of fantasy books, but now I've sort of lost touch with the genre. There aren't that many fantasy books available for me at my library.
However, I very much enjoy The Echorium Sequence by Katherine Roberts. There are currently three books in the series (although there might be more coming), and they're called Song Quest, Crystal Mask, and Dark Quetzal. Either the first or second one could be deemed my favorite; I find that they're both equally good.
I'd probably give the series an 8.5 or so because they're extremely well-written. However, I've observed that it's probably quite difficult to read the series out-of-order, because the second and third books depend heavily on material in the first book. There's a glossary in the back of all the books, but it really isn't that helpful at times.
My favorite character would have to be Kherron; he's an awful lot like Sirius: impulsive, bad temper, etc. I'd also love to meet him. Alas, I can't say that I would like to be him because I'm not a guy, so I would probably most like to be Rialle, even though she has a phobia for walls or something.
I've heard of another book by Katherine Roberts called Spellfall, but I have yet to read it. I'm not sure if I really want to; it doesn't sound as good as the Echorium Sequence.
((This is off-topic, but I just wanted to tell you I really love your icon, meggybell! :D))

Kycoo, it sounds like you've been able to get your hands on some fantasy, and just because there aren't that many fantasy books at your library doesn't mean you should stop reading them. I encourage you to continue reading fantasy, since there's so many life lessons that we can learn from them.
I have also read the first two books in The Echorium Sequence, and liked them very much! I also really like Kherron, and he does remind me a lot of Sirius(except with blue hair )
I also wouldn't give the series a ten, but more like an eight, just because I did have trouble reading them, since I read the first one, then read the second one about a year later, and couldn't really remember a single thing.
((And thanks, kycoo, I like it too! ))

Ehi guys, have you ever read "The song of ice and fire" by George R.R. Martin????? It's composed by 7 books but I have read only the first two ones because I have to study for my exams...
it's beautiful! I don't know if it can be considered a fantasy, but there are dragons and strange people like the Dementors. It takes place in a ficticious land, like middle earth.
2) I would rate it at about 8, because I still don't know how it ends.
3) probably I would save my favourite character, Eddard, the first knight of the king, betrayed and killed. :cry(even if he was innocent)
4) as I said my favourite character is Lord Eddard (so cool). I would like to meet him, but unluckily he is dead. I would like to be like his daughter Arya. She is only ten, but she is very intelligent and she wants to become a knight.
5) I have never read anything else from this author, but I think he has written only this kind of chronicals.
I really liked the two books I read. I think the best one is the second, " A game of thrones" because the story is getting more and more interesting. When I read all the books, I will make you know.

Saracblack, dragons, dementor-like people, and a ficticious land would be fantasy. *Ahem* If you read "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", dragons will be in there. Note the "Fantastic". And notice Fantasy. See my point? Anyways.
No, I haven't read The Song of Ice and Fire, but I think that that was one of the books that looked really good.

What do you mean by "even if he was innocent"? Would you care to expand, or does it give away too much of the book?

No problem, I explain immediately what I mean saying "even if he was innocent."
The plot is a bit difficult, but I can sum up saying that after the king's death Eddard tries to bring the land to peace.
He finds out that the three children of the king are in reality illegitimate (the bad queen had an affair with her twin brother... awful, isn't it?)
He finds out also that other people had discovered the same secret and all of them had died mysteriously. He decides to speak with the queen (who is really unbearable)and he orders her to leave the castle with her bastard children. In this way he won't say anything about her children and her incestuous intrigue. (she comes from a rich and powerful family)
He won't guide the nation by his own, but he will call the King's brother who is the ligitimate king and is still alive.
The queen, who wants only the power and the crown, accuses Eddard of high treason and she makes him cut his head.
oh, I didn't say that it was the Queen, whose name is Cersei, that has made the king his husband and all the other people kill.
Well, that's all. I hope you have understood something more...

1) Definately either the Chronicles of the Cheysuli or Tiger and Del (both are by Jennifer Roberson)
2) I would rate both series a 9. I love the author's writing style even though both series are vastly different; they're both in their own way lyrical and captivating, and the characters absolutely jump off the page.
3) I would change one of the deaths in the Cheysuli books. I mean, obviously it has to happen, because people die. I'm not going to tell you who it is, incase you read the books, but it happens at the end of the second of the Chronicles of the Cheysuli.
4) In Tiger and Del: The strong, willful Delilah. In the Cheysuli Chronicles... Um.... There's about 100 main characters thoughtout the series, and its been a while since I've read them, but probably Keely and her three brothers, Corin, Hart, and Brennan.

1)I'd have to say The Magician by Raymond E Feist. I really enjoyed the rest of his series as well.
2) Ten out of ten. It was such a brilliant book. The rest of the series I would give about a 8.5 to 9. (Though its been a long while since I read them so I can't remember that much lol.)
3) Ummm There is one large bit I would change but I can't say it without blowing part of the novel... It would be something to do with Pug and his female preference...
4)My favourite character would have to be Thomas (I think that was his name). I would most like to meet Pug and I would most like to be the Elven Queen (can't remember her name... or even if she was a Queen LOL)
5) All of Raymond E Feist's novels are brilliant. I love how all his novels are linked together somehow. It is really like reading a history of a world, like Lord of the Rings.

1) My favourite fantasy book apart from Harry Potter is Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkein. (I would have said Dracula by Bram Stoker, but it is more of a classic.)
2)On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it an eight.
3) If I could change one thing about this book, it would be to shorten the often lenghty descriptions, and this goes for all the Lord of the Rings books.
4)My favourite character in the book is Gandalf the White, because he is a lot like Dumbledore. I would most like to meet Frodo Baggins, because it is he, and not Aragorn, who won the war against Sauron, but Aragorn seems to get the credit. I would most like to be Galadreil, because she is so powerful and pretty and an indept character.
5) I have read all the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hobbit, and various additional information books. All were enjoyable and very interesting. If nothing else, one must really admire how dedicated Tolkein was to his story, to make maps and create an alphabet and even a language for the world he invented. Truly outstanding. And the history is so well thought out. And he brought Gandalf back to life. Hint hint ,JKR.

Hear, hear. As much as I love the LotR books, there are some parts that just drag on and on, with no real point of them whatsoever. The parts where the characters randomly burst into song is kind of weird, too, but I don't have much of a complaint about it. (I was terrified the movies would include it, though. Thankfully, they didn't.)

That's because the movies tend to glorify Aragorn, and most people get the impression that Frodo's just a whiny brat. The movies aren't as thorough as they could be in explaining exactly what the ring does to the ringbearer, so Frodo's random "fits" (I couldn't find a better word) seem stupid.

Hopefully, Gandalf's fate alludes to Dumbledore's. And yes, Tolkien is fabulous when it comes to all the extra stuff he added in to his story. I mean, creating a language? That's just phenomenal.

Hi everybody!! I wrote
| Quote:: |
| When I read all the books, I will make you know. |
So here I am.
Well, I have to say that I am a bit disappointed. I have read all the books of The song of Ice and Fire. Very good, I have to admit, but when I have read the last page I realised it couldn't be the last page of the last book.
It should be the end of the story, but in reality there is not an end.
The carachters are completely abandoned and you don't know what happens to Arya for example, or to his brother, who is obliged to leave the castle where he lives bacause it is attacked by his father's enemies. Where does he go? I don't know. What does he do? I don't know.
So, to sum up, very well written, bit a bit upsetting.

Wow. I have to pick just one? *looks at massive personal library* Okay, then. Here goes...
I picked Inkheart, because it is not a well known book but it rocks.
I would rate it at a 9 1/2. The dialogue is a little funny because it is translated from German.
I would take Farid out of the book because he sort of steals the spotlight away from my favorite character.
Dustfinger is my absolute favorite. I would love to meet him! (in other words, I would be all over him the way I would be all over Sirius.) However, if I had to BE a character I would be Meggy, because we are very much alike.
Inkspell is the next in the series (Dusfinger dies!!! Wouldn't you know it!!)
Cornelia Funke (the author) has also written The Thief Lord and Dragon Rider, which are also awesome.

It's not a case of Frodo not Aragorn. It's Frodo and Aragorn who won the war. Frodo alone couldn't have done it, nor could Aragorn alone.
