For our international knitters, or just those who happened to have fallen in love with a German legwarmer pattern (but who don't speak German)...
I give you the Knitting Translation Chart.
It features common knitting terms cross translated into Spanish, French, English, and German.
Very helpful, no, non, no, and nein??

'Tis very helpful Ja! Now I just need a German to Swiss German translator and I'll be as happy as a pig in mud.

I've been looking for patterns for certain things and landed on Knittingpatterncentral. I think at least most, if not all are free and there are some pretty good ones.
Edit: I just realized that This is the more direct link to the pattern list.

That site rocks, Canute. I've found almost all of the patterns I've used on there.

*peeks in*
I have a sample of a program that I got here. It's called "X-Stitch Studio" and while it is mostly for cross stitching, under 'edit' menu you can change the design you made into a knitting pattern. It asks you for the gage of what you're knitting and then fixes it into a pattern for knitting.
This is the program I used to create the designs I used for the bookmarks I made in the bookmark swap, as well as RSSPS, as you can import images from an outside source to make the pattern for.
As it is a sample program, you *supposedly* can't print or save any designs you make, but I've found (accidently, mind you) a way that you can. Highlight for details:
** You copy the design and paste it into a paint program, you can then print and save it.
Or you can screencap it. **

Cute knitting patterns in today's paper... here are some knit hand warmers and here are instructions for a knitted corset. The patterns are from a new punk-style knitting book...
If you can't get through on the links, you'll have to register with the L.A. Times and then you should be able to see the pages.
The handwarmers look like they go really fast - you could probably do them in HP colors instead of pink and black (sounds a bit Sparkly-Poo to me). Have fun...

Thanks Soli! Those hand warmers look right up Tarita's street. Pink, Fair Isle, what more could she want?

Big sale at Knit Picks to make room for their upcoming spring yarns. Might be a good time to add to your stashes...

Another cute free pattern from the L.A. Times...
Slouchy beret
If you want to see the picture of what it looks like, click the link for "Stealing the Spotlight." As before, if you can't get through, register (free) on the L.A. Times website and you should be able to get the link.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've never done a twisted cable...looks interesting.

Handy site for locating LYS in the US, and you can add and comment on shops you personally know. Useful if you're planning a vacation and want to know of a good shop. ShopYarn.com

I ordered the new Louisa Harding knitting book, Cardigans, during the last Knit Picks book sale (40% off) and OMG, it is so inspiring and beautiful. All sorts of darling simple projects to make, including a couple that scream, Kermit...uh...I mean...Pen...yeah, that's it...green all over I highly recommend Louisa Harding's books wherever you find them. Some really special looking projects, mostly in the beginning to intermediate categories.
