As the release of HBP draws near, we're bound to see lots of new names here on the boards and lots of people eager to join our community.

This will save you and us from misunderstandings related to not being familiar Immeritus' rules, preferences, and expectations.

Key things to remember include:

Use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation when posting. No l33t or netslang! No swearing or NC-17 content. We're kid-friendly.

Limit your number of emotes and graphics per post and keep your signature at a reasonable size.

Starting a new topic is a BIG DEAL! Be as sure as possible that there is not already a topic where your idea can be discussed. That means looking through old topics, and the search function can help with this. Also be sure that your topic is one which will allow for discussion. A "yes or no" question or "what's that guy's name who..." are not topics that can engage lots of people in thoughtful conversation.

Quality is more important than quantity when it comes to posting. The moderator should not see that one person has posted 5 brief posts in one forum on one day. If you have 5 thoughtful, reflective, researched posts, than go ahead-- but this is rare! If you are concerned about your rank, "spammy" posts like "Great idea, Bob!" or "I totally agree! Sirius is soooooo kewl!" are going to end up earning you the flunkie tag where your old rank used to be, and they definitely won't look good should you be interested in joining the club. You can always hop into chat to discuss your ideas in a casual way.

Courtesy is important. Members are expected to maintain a respectful tone with each other when debating. If someone has been discourteous to you or has become aggressive or insulting, rather than responding in kind, please get in touch with the forum moderator or an administrator via a private message, email, or chat. Let us settle the matter for you, that's what we're here for. Leave the rough stuff to us.
