Wow, I actually put this up on the first day of the month for once! Aren't you all proud?

This month's character is....

Voldemort himself!

Love him or hate him, you can't deny that he's the driving force behind the books. Without a villain, no one can be a hero, right?

I don't like him like I like Lucius and Peter, of course, but I do feel sorry for him. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what his story is.

Me, too! I feel sorry for Tom Riddle, but it doesn't blind me to who he has become.

I pity him, because of the measures he has taken to get revenge on his father's memory. His acts are deperate and I do believe he is a tormented soul. I doubt he sleeps well...ever! This must be the driving force for his madness.

I have to mention that Tom was so very handsome.

Yes, I kind of agree... Voldemort, Tom Riddle, is a tormented soul, but for all he has done I could never truly pity him...

But, there is a song by 'The Who' called, "Behind Blue Eyes" that just screams Voldemort, or more precisely, his story. I think there is a story on Fanfiction.net that starts out with this song and is about Voldemort.

And I have to agree, Tome was very handsome in the movie.

I have to listen to that song. I am not a "The Who" fan, so that should be interesting.

I would not go as far as really consider him for forgiveness (if he was in my world and wanted leniancy for a sentence, for example) but it is a tragic thing when somebody is so hung up on the past like that that it drives their every move in the present and future. Think of the way you unwind when you go to bed (at least I do: think about my day and reflect). Somebody like Voldermort or any other murderous maniac MUST go to bed cringing at his day's work or with bad, bad thoughts. I couldn't live like that. Most bad people, I like to think, do have a conscience, but the desire to do wrong over powers it.

I hope that JKR gives us a little bit more of Tom's past life in books 6&7. His life has to be explored a little more.

Sorry I have absolutely nothing intelligent to add, but I do have two things to say.

There is a Limp Bizkit remake of &quot;Behind Blue Eyes.&quot; Of course, I would tell you which version is better if I knew.

About Voldemort's current appearance, I drew a darn good picture of his face once, and I realized: He looks like the stereotypical alien. Bald head; no nose, just nostrils; his red eyes with slits. It was just a strange thought I had one day. Funny, it could mean muggles have just been victims of Voldemort memory charms or something like that.

&quot;Voldemort accounts for over 60% of all alien abductions in England.&quot;

And yes, Tom was very yummy in the movie.<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START Hey! Hey! --><img src=http://pages.prodigy.net/siriusblack/boards/smilies/heyhey.gif ALT=":heyhey]<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->~Trish~

First of all... I prefer "The who"'s version:).

Now, I'm gonna look like an evil person compared to the rest of you guys but... Actually, I think it might have started the way you say but now it's not anymore like that... I think he sleeps quite well and he enjoys and has fun being the way he is... He's blinded with evilness, he feeds from it and he likes it that way. He has become so self centered that he can no longer use those excuses! It's all for himself now, he wants to be imortal and he likes to abuse the weaker. that's the way I see him... Plus, his father is no excuse... lots of people grow up in the wrong environment and become nice people... He's mean!

Yes, there is always that possibility he has become immune to the horror. Crazy people actually enjoy what they do. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :evil --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/devil.gif ALT=":evil]<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Your right, his father is not an excuse, but it appears to have been the seed to his being so evil. It takes much more than a mere memory.Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bsiriusblackfanclub.showUserPublicProfile?gid=aahlyia72>aahlyia72[/url] at: 5/5/04 10:20 am

I agree with Blodeuwedd with everything, "The Who's" version being better and the whole point on how Ol' Voldie can't use the excuses of a bad childhood and all...

Hmm... there's a quote that says " Absolute power corrupts absolutely" -- it kind of applies to this situation because Tom became entranced with his power and now, as Voldie, is engulfed 'absolutely' in it...

Voldermort has nothing else to keep him going. His existance alone thrives from sheer power...

Voldemort. The main man behind the scenes. Ah, brilliant choice this month!

You must admit, he is a genius. Blackmailing a group of wizards into his service, killing many people and not getting caught. I don't respect it, but it is smart and cunning.

Yes, in the recent March chat (check for moi - three questions answered!) Jo mentioned that Riddle's background would be explained a bit. I pity the creature (not much of a person, anymore, is he), being raised in an orphanage and being driven basically insane.

And, note: 'Tis not "Voldie", like our dear idol has stated. Such a title is not suitable! I can honestly exclaim that I've never written that, nor "Moldyshorts" or any of those popular pet names. Voldemort is good enough for me. Or Lord Thingy, which Jo herself has conjured up. Wink

Analytically, Adele

Post Post subject: Voldemort's Ambiguity
Posted: Sun May 16, 2004 06:02 PM

Voldemort, as a whole, radiates such an ambiguity in his characterization. Though he is obsessed with asserting his strength, his weakness resides within this desire to prove his greatness, both over Harry (who has thwarted him 4 times now) and Dumbledore (known to be the greatest wizard). A mudblood, himself, he harbors a resentment toward those who are not pureblood, a notion that undoubtedly arises from his ancestry in Salazar Slytherin. Its a seemingly paradoxical existence. What is amazing about Voldemort as a character, furthermore, is his ability to conjure ambiguity in us, as readers. Here is the most horribly evil person, no one can argue this, yet we feel sorry for him-for his being raised in an orphanage. With Voldemort, it is all about being ambiguous.

Voldemort is a different type of character. He's not in the foreground, but not in the background. He's the plot, but never there.

He attacks slyly, preserves himself in a diary, and blackmails. He's smart, but uses his power in a dangerous way.

What can I say about our evil villian in one word that sums up the man?

Slytherin.

Oh, how I laugh when I think how someone (or someones) must have posted something along the lines of "Voldy will be a good guy with a little therapy"! I guess I have seen the term "Voldy", around here, but I didn't consider it cuddly or re-habilitatable, that is just too funny. I like and respect that JKR corrected fans on that! Had a good snicker over it.

Ready for next month's character, because I can't think of anything relevant, interesting, or humorous to say about Not-so-Lord Voldemort.

Hmmm...Well I guess all of the Harry Potter books revolve around Harry and his quest to find and destroy Voldemort. Or more commonly known as "You know Who" throughout the Harry Potter Series.

I think what the whole Series will boil down to...Is Love. Voldemort couldn't kill Harry because of the Love his parents had for him. Love. Dumbledore loves Harry and as long as Dumbledore's love is around, Voldemort could not get to Harry. I mean wouldn't it be spectacular to have the series end with something about LOVE.

I think Voldemort will find out the true thing holding him back and will not be able to understand it. Love. Try that on for size.
