I thought I would start a single thread, much like the "Homework Helpers" thread for when we are trying to find something specific without starting a lot of new individual threads for each item.

So, may I ask the crafty knitting people amongst Immeritans if anyone knows of a good source on the internet for buying yarn, with some variety, that is a bit less than the usual retail prices??? There are less and less places around Southern California to go and it's getting frustrating...

Solicanoli, have you tried froogling yarn?

I'm not familiar with the price of yarn and threads, so I can't really help you, but I looked this sites up in Froogle:

www.buyonlinenow.com/v...u=PAC00240

www.shoplet.com/office...07031.html

www.purplekittyyarns.c...ProdID=129

Apparently kids yarn is the less expensive, but Im not sure that's what you're looking for.

Well, Mari, I did try using a search engine (Google to be exact), and some places that claim to have low prices don't have much selection, and some places that have a lot of selection seem to be expensive - and I am hesitant to buy from a company I've never heard of - thus asking for references from anyone who might have experience with buying yarn online... I know that when I post links on line it's generally for something that I've used myself - or know someone whose used the company Wink

Sorry, Soli. I don't knit or crochet so I know nothing about yarns. Have you tried Ben Franklin stores yet? www.bfranklincrafts.com/ I've shopped them in person but never online. Good luck.

My mom's the online yarn stuff expert, but I know a bit. I dunno how widespread the chain is, but JoAnn fabrics usually has a really good, inexpensive collection of yarns. I can vouch for the store's authenticity - they're real, and they're good. They have a site here that may or may not help you out in your quest:

I am looking for an avatar someone had on here last week - but I don't remember the member's name! The avatar looks a great deal like someone I work with, but when I logged on to show her, I couldn't find it! Whoever it was must have changed the av.

It was a closeup shot of an asian/hawaiian female's face, with light brown/medium brown hair hanging over her eyes a little. Most of her face was in the square but not really much of her head.

Can anyone point me to it? Now my friend wants to see it. Thanks!

Accio, wasn't that Catz' avatar? I think I remember her last avater much like your description, but I'm not entirely sure. She changes her avatar quite often, too.

I'm trying to find products (material, wallpaper, toys, pictures, etc.) related to the book "Where The Wild Things Are"----this was my younger brother's all-time favorite book as a child (he still has it) and he and his wife would like to incorporate it into the nursery for their soon-to-be-here baby.

Also, I'd like to find some avatars from the movie "Hocus Pocus"---with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and kathy Najimy. I have the DVD but no clue how to make avatars...

any help on either will be greatly appreciated....

thanks!

Spello

If you can screen capture from your dvd (or email pics you find online) I can scale them to avatars. That is, if you mean stills. All you do is square crop the image to what you want to show, and scale it to 100 x 100 dpi. If you mean you want clips from the movie, as in short scenes running over and over, I don't have the right software to do that, but a few others on here do.

Email me if you need my help; glad to.

Thanks Accio!

As soon as I figure out why my 'puter no longer wants to play DVD's, I may ask for your help. I haven't yet found the particular picture I'm looking for online anywhere.

Thanks again, Accio. You're always so nice to me.

I think I'm gonna snap you.... Wink

Soli-- I'm a knitting/crochet fanatic, too. And I'm also CHEAP. I can't stand to pay a ton for yarn...

If you want acrylics, I find that the Hancock Fabrics website has good prices on lionbrand.

But my true passion is knitpicks.com They make their own yarns and have lots of gorgeous, soft natural yarns for waaaaaaaay less than average.

oooohhhh Tree - knitpicks.com sounds like what I've been looking for! Thanks - I will have to check them out!

I am up to my eyeballs in school projects and family stuff (baby shower tomorrow, among other things) and all I want to do is knit myself a new sweater or poncho!!! Talk about selfish...

This is kind of a bizarre request but does anyone know where I can buy Disney movies or kids movies in German? My daughter goes to a German Immersion school and I would like to get her some Disney movies in German for her birthday. I tried Amazon.de but I don't understand German enough to order and she can't read yet. Please help!!
