If Sirius was gone forever I'd say Harry should die too so he'd meet Sirius and his parents but as I'm preety sure he'll be back I think Harry should live in the end and be happy forever... (the kid has had too much, hasn't he?)

In CoS Harry defeated the Basilisk and nearly died from the poison. That would be a pretty cool ending, or at the very least an emotional tugger. But you're right about the fact that he deserves a happily ever after.

Hmmm, although I'd be satisfied with a 'Harry defeats Voldie' sort of ending, I really hope Neville is the one that defeats him. Honestly, I don't really like Harry all that much, but I am growing quite fond of Mr. Longbottom. Go Neville!

I voted for both Harry and Voldemort dying. I'm torn between that and Harry living after the defeat. I just don't think living happily ever after is realistic for Harry -- he's lost too many people. It'd be better if he died and was reunited with everyone he's lost. (Not just he's dead, and that's it -- that wouldn't be good either.)

As for Neville, I do like his character. I think he'll help in the end, but I don't know that he'll be the one ultimately responsible for Voldie's demise.

I think Neville can't really kill Voldemort, can he? Voldemort can only die at Harry's hands, right? So I agree that he "deserves" to have a relevant role in the end but he cannot kill Voldemort, or it would be just like before, always waiting for his return...

I chose Harry killing old Voldy and living - it's not that I'm a sucker for a happy ending, though - I don't think it could be a happy ending, not with the losses already suffered and the ones that I think are probably coming.

I suppose it's possible that the series could end that way, but I doubt it. Imagine everyone sitting around at the end of book 7 going "what the...? did evil just win?"

The Harry/Voldemort storyline has to be resolved, and that means that either Harry or Voldy has to be defeated. I do believe that Voldy will be, but whether or not Harry'll die as well remains to be seen. I think he should get a stab at a normal life free from Voldy-oppression and the permanent threat hanging over his and his loved ones' heads.

This really ties into a couple of other threads that I've been thinking about. One is on the "other characters" board and asks the question Neville or Harry. The other one (and I can't find it again) is about what kind of job Harry might have after school.

I personally think that Neville is going to turn out to be the real person mentioned in the prophecy. Therefore, I don't think Harry can kill Voldemort; Neville will do it. Imagine a big dueling scene, lots of Death Eaters and members of the Order fighting. In the midst of it all, Harry and Voldemort are going at it (remember, by the end of bk.7 Harry will be able to apparate!). The spells are flying, people yelling, and then....Harry falls! Gasp! The horror! Noooo! Did Voldemort just win? Then from nowhere and in a fit of desperation, Neville launches an unseen and unanticipated attack on Voldemort, "AVADA KEDAVRA!" A stunned look crosses Voldemort's face as he realizes he's done for and then he falls, too. The fighting ceases as everyone begins to register the bizarre twist of fate that has just taken place. The chapter ends.

Then we cut to a week or so later to find a recovering (of course! Harry can't die!) Harry in the hospital wing. He's only just been able to talk to people, so Hermione and Ron are there telling him what happened after he fell. Harry is stunned, "So, it was Neville all along? Not me? Why did Voldemort come after me when I was a baby, then?"

"Well, we figure he was going to the Longbottoms next, but you stopped him. See, it turns out that the Longbottoms were also in hiding, but their Secret Keeper also betrayed them," explained Hermione.

"Who was it?",asked Harry.

"Neville's Gran!! Can you believe it?", exclaimed Ron...

and the conversation goes on in that vein for awhile.

Post Hogwarts for Harry? I don't think he'll be an auror. I think he's had enough dueling and death. I think (hehe) he'll be the "next" Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Now that would really crack me up. Wouldn't old Snape just have a fit!

I think Harry will definetly kill Voldemort, and that Neville, Pettigrew and Snape has some big role in the process. Neville was obciously the other chioce for the prophecy to be connected to. Pettigrew owe's Harry his life. And Snape... there's something suspicious about, and his past.

I think Harry is the boy of the Prophecy, so he's going to kill Voldemort, but I'm sure Neville will have his part in it. Wink

Clearly Harry is the one who will have to face Voldemort in the end, Neville might have his part, but Harry's the man, and here I quote from the prophecy; "and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal," undoubtedly its got to be Harry, lets wish him luck!
